The Cupano winery was founded in 1996 by Lionel Cousin and his wife Ornella. Lionel is a former cinematographer who turned to winemaking after spending time in the Sahara Desert. He is a disciple of the father of modern Burgundy, Henri Jayer, and his wines reflect his commitment to natural winemaking. Their Brunello di Montalcino is made from hand-harvested Sangiovese grapes that are fermented in small, temperature-controlled tanks. The wine is then aged for at least 2 years in oak barrels, and then for an additional 6 months in bottle before release.
