CVNE Imperial Real de Asua Magnum 2001

CVNE Imperial Real de Asúa 2001 is a mature-vintage, full-bodied red wine from the Rioja region of Spain. Produced from grapes sourced from the best vineyards in Villalba, Rioja Alta, this prestige wine was first produced in 1994 as a tribute to the founders of the winery, the Real de Asúa brothers. The 2001 wine was matured for 24 months in American oak casks. "The 2001 Imperial Gran Reserva has a more complex, better defined nose than the 2000, with black cherries, spice and Seville orange marmalade. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins cloaked in sweet dark cherry, bitter orange and strawberry fruit. It is lighter on its feet than the 2000, with less persistence, yet it shows greater harmony and tension. This is a fabulous Gran Reserva with enormous weight and dimension." Neal Martin, 2012
