Henschke The Wheelwright 2018

Henschke The Wheelwright 2018 is a full-bodied Shiraz red wine produced from biodynamically farmed grapes in the Eden Valley sub-region of Barossa, South Australia. The Wheelwright was created as a tribute to Christian Henschke, a visionary German stonemason and wheelwright who founded his eponymous winery in 1868. The 2018 Wheelwright was produced from Shiraz vines that were planted in 1968. The wine was matured for 18 months in a combination of 65% French and 35% American oak casks, around a quarter of which were new. "This is an expressive and somewhat flamboyant wine with exotic touches on the nose and an over-arching red-fruit theme. There is a pliable, fondanty texture with dark chocolate details, but no excess flesh or unwanted sweetness exists." Matthew Jukes
