German White Wines

Germany is one of the rare wine countries where the whites outpace the reds; whites account for more than 65% of the country's vineyards. The best German white wines have incredible age worthiness, particularly the country's predominant grape variety, Riesling. Historically, most German Rieslings have been sweet, though there is a shift towards drier styles being produced.

German Rieslings from the Mosel, Rheingau and Pfalz are some of the most captivating in the world and are made in a wide assortment of styles from dry and crisp to luscious and sweet, with categories based on the ripeness level of grapes at the time of harvest. While Riesling is certainly the poster child for German white wine, there are many other grapes grown throughout the country, including Pinot Gris (Grauburgunder) and Pinot Blanc (Weissburgunder) and even Chardonnay.
