With less stringent requirements concerning permitted grape varieties, yields and winemaking compared with other appellations in Bordeaux, this category sees many top wines including Valandraud Blanc, Y de Yquem and Les Perrières de Lafleur to name but a few. Key classic varieties include Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon for reds and Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Sauvignon Gris for whites.
