Beaune Hospices de Beaune Cuvee Dame Hospitalieres Albert Bichot 1978

Founded in 1443, the Hospices de Civiles de Beaune began as a charitable almshouse in Beaune, now transformed into a contemporary hospital while the original structures house a museum. Since 1859, an annual charity wine auction has been raising funds for the hospital, and the resulting wines are released under the Hospice`s overarching label. These wines are meticulously crafted at the Hospices` winery, sourced from approximately 60 hectares of vineyard holdings generously donated to the charity over many decades. Hospice de Beaune cuvées are then aged by various négociants whose name may appear on the label. This particular release was bottled by Domaines Albert Bichot and hails from the superb 1978 vintage.
