Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier is one of Chambolle-Musigny`s most sought-after producers, celebrated for pure, perfumed Pinot Noir made with a light touch. This village-level wine from the fresh, classic 2014 vintage shows red cherry, wild strawberry and violet aromas, with silky texture, bright acidity and fine, gentle tannins. It is elegant and precise rather than powerful, already delicious but capable of a few more years in bottle. A lovely introduction to Mugnier`s house style; enjoy with roast chicken or duck.

Bright medium red. Compelling perfume of raspberry, flowers, game and leather, still with a touch of reduction. Tactile and vibrant in the mouth, with complex flavors of red berries, flowers and flint accented by soil and light veggie nuances. Not as thick as the young 2015 but a wonderfully expressive and complete village wine. Finishes saline and sweet, with fine-grained tannins and superb length and soil character. Frederic Mugnier noted that this wine can be kept for a long time but emphasized that it doesn`t benefit as much from aging as the crus do.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2017

Mossy nose. Very pure and pretty with good fruit underneath. Sturdy. Straightforward and a bit grainy in terms of tannin. Juicy. (JR)

Precision and Beauty

Located the famous Château de Chambolle-Musigny, which has been owned by the Mugniers since the mid 19th century, Frédéric Mugnier took the hem at the family winery in 1985. Frédéric farms around 35 acres of vines, including plantings in some of Burgundy's most desirable crus, most notably the famous Les Amoureuses Premier Cru and Musigny Grand Cru. A notable recent addition to the portfolio is Clos de la Maréchale in Nuits-St-George, returned to the family stable after a 54 lease to Domaine Faiveley.

The winemaking is methodical and reasoned, reflecting Frédéric's training as an engineer - all fruit is destemmed before crushing, new oak is limited to 25% and all wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered. Bucking the trend somewhat, Frédéric has decided not to pursue organic or biodynamic certification. While pesticide and herbicide-free since the mid-1990s, the domaine take a pragmatic approach to vineyard management rather than a dogmatic one.
