Château Gruaud Larose 1979 is a mature-vintage, Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wine from the St-Julien appellation of Bordeaux. Château Gruaud Larose is a Second Growth property located southwest of the village of Beychevelle, within the Saint-Julien appellation. The estate was originally formed in 1757 by Joseph Gruaud and it is currently owned by the Merlaut family. This release is from the eminently serviceable 1979 St-Julien vintage. "This has everything I look for in a great claret. The nose is sweet at first, almost Pomerol like, developing into a lovely savoury nose with scents of roast beef. The palate has a wonderful balance, superb acidity and impressive concentration. The austerity at the end balanced by the lovely sweet mid-palate. Definitely at its peak now." Neal Martin 2003
