After sourcing Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from Trailside Vineyard in the early 1980s, the Heitz family seized the opportunity to buy the prime Rutherford site as their own in 1984. Trailside Vineyard was the start of Heitz’ journey into organic farming and was certified by CCOF in 1987. 1991 was a reverse of 1990’s small crop size, with ripe and complex berries. A delight to drink now.
