Henschke Hill of Grace 2018

Henschke Hill of Grace 2018 is a single-vineyard Shiraz from Eden Valley in the Barossa region of South Australia. Henschke is synonymous with fine winemaking in Australia. The family is one of the `First Families` – 10 of the country`s oldest and most respected family-owned, multi-generation wineries. Produced from biodynamically farmed vines, the Hill of Grace single-vineyard Shiraz is the family`s flagship wine. Intense, concentrated and age-worthy, it is considered by many to be Australia`s greatest red wine. 2018 is the 57th release of Hill of Grace, which was first produced in 1958 when the vines were already almost 100 years old. "Subtle nose of minerals and earth with quite a `sharp` palate entry. Lots of ripe-but-refreshing fruit suggests there`s hardly any tannin here at all. It`s somehow more `comfortable` and settled – less sharp – than Hill of Roses 2018, with notes of molasses but nothing heavy nor obviously sweet. Wonderfully long and refreshing. It does taste like a vineyard in a bottle! I`m sure Stephen H works awfully hard in the winery but this almost tastes as though he doesn`t. Difficult to know how long this will still offer great drinking; the Henschkes suggest `30+ years from vintage`." Jancis Robinson MW
