Joseph Phelps Backus Magnum 1984

Established in the 1970s, Joseph Phelps Vineyards is a Napa Valley wine producer situated just outside St. Helena. The winery was recently acquired by the French group LVMH but members of the Phelps family are still very much involved with the day-to-day running of the business. As is the case with many of Napa`s most notable producers, the main red grape variety here is Cabernet Sauvignon. ‘Backus’ is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of Petit Verdot and Malbec sourced from a 2.7-hectare single vineyard. The 1984 vintage is incredibly fresh for its age, boasting notes of black plums, cassis, hints of bell pepper, mint and earth, all complemented by striking acidity.
