Lagar de Baixo Niepoort 2020

Dirk Niepoort is a a prominent advocate for the Baga grape variety. Despite the inherent challenges of handling Baga, in skilled hands, as demonstrated here, it produces wines of exceptional refinement and grace. Hailing from the Bairrada region, the wine undergoes fermentation in open lagares before being transferred to large 2,500-litre vats. Following an 18-month ageing process, it is bottled. On the nose, aromas of cherries and blackberries, along with subtle vegetal hints. The palate is full-bodied, featuring fine-grained and slightly earthy tannins that are well-balanced by bright crispness, providing a precise structure.
