The Massandra Winery was founded in 1894 by Tsar Nicholas II on the outskirts of Yalta, on the Crimean Peninsula, and was the official supplier of fine wines to the royal family whilst they were on vacation at their summer palace in Livadia. In the words of Robert Parker`s Wine Advocate, "This explosive amber-coloured dessert wine boasts remarkable freshness and elegance for its size, richness, and power. Although sweet, it does not come across as cloying or heavy given its tangy level of acidity, which insures its freshness and strikingly beautiful aromatics. The wine is dense, full-bodied, spectacularly perfumed, and totally harmonious".
