Stags Leap Cask 23 2010 is a mature, full-bodied red wine produced from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in the Napa Valley of California. Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars was founded in 1970 by Warren Winiarski and is one of the most important California wineries, famously having won the Cabernet Sauvignon competition at the seminal 1976 Judgement of Paris. Cask 23 was first produced in 1974 after consultant winemaker, Andre Tchelistcheff, declared that one particular cask was so beautiful and distinct that it merited a separate bottling. "Lively, nuanced scents of black raspberry, licoricey, mocha, coffee, tobacco and soil, lifted by a subtle floral top note. Suave, fine-grained and silky but penetrating too, with subtly complex tobacco leaf and herb nuances accenting the flavours of red and black fruits, licoricey and cedar. Lovely inner-mouth energy and lift here; nothing heavy or sweet about this wine. Finishes with very smooth tannins and subtle floral/earthy persistence and lift. This very subtle, laid-back wine is at the beginning of its peak drinking plane. Really dances on the palate." Vinous, 2020
