Amarone Classico Calcarole 2016

Guerrieri Rizzardi Calcarole Amarone Classico 2016 is a full-bodied single-vineyard red wine from the Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG of Veneto, northern Italy. Calcarole is a 5ha vineyard where the vines grow on a steep, rocky limestone hillside. It is one of the most revered vineyard sites in the Amarone region. This Amarone Classico is only produced in the best vintages and in very limited quantities. Made from partially dried `passito` grapes, this wine was matured for 12 months in 5hl oak casks and then a further 24 months in 25hl casks. From the excellent 2016 vintage, this Calcarole balances power with freshness and purity of dark-berried fruit. Very much enjoyable now, it will cellar well for a decade or more.
