Sake

Following the runaway success of our previous two online Sake events we are delighted to welcome House of Sake's Honami Matsumoto back to present the second in a series of tastings exploring the fascinating world of "Speciality Sake".



A much mis-understood category, sake ranges in style from elegant and dry to rich and full-bodied. Sometimes aged in stainless steel for a pure fruit character and sometimes laid to rest in wooden barrels for more depth and complexity.

Chris Alheit is considered by many to be one of South Africa's most dynamic young winemakers. A keen believer in the old maxim that "wine is made in the vineyard", each one of Chris's bottlings tells a story in every sense. Whether he is working with fifty year old dry-farmed bush vines or his own plantings of high-altitude Rieslings, maintaining the character of both the vineyard and vintage is considered of the utmost importance.
